REDCAT's annual New Original Works Festival continues with works by Laurel Jenkins and Chey Chankethya, Rebecca Pappas, and NoodleRice Studio (Yao Zhang and Liang Guo). 

LAUREL JENKINS & CHEY CHANKETHYA: SOMA PATH
Propelled by the physical dialogue and new meaning that emerges between two traditions: Cambodian classical dance and American Postmodern dance, this international collaboration reveals two simultaneous kinesthetic worlds. Embracing the complexity, distinction, and humor innate to Kethya and Laurel’s dancing relationship, the tension between forms is explored in an imagined moonlit space, with a live score by Miguel Frasconi.

REBECCA PAPPAS: PLASTIC FLOW
Sculptural paper, fabric, and lights create a lush and constantly shifting environment for choreographer Rebecca Papas and her performers, who animate the materials to evoke imposing glacial landscapes come to life. Pappas confronts global themes of survival in collaboration with designer Christopher Kuhl, sound designer Joe Court, visual artist Claire Anna Baker, and geologist Carolyn Dowling. 

NOODLERICE STUDIO (YAO ZHANG & LIANG GUO): UNTITLED 
Beautiful large bubbles float over the stage to create a mysteriously theatrical world, in which otherworldly characters play out a series of compelling and surreal scenarios. In this inventive performance and sculptural collaboration by artist/designers Yao Zhang and Liang Guo of NoodleRice Studio Collective, a collage of theatrical phrases depicts the characters transformations in identity/gender/species.
