The Words of Others (Palabras ajenas) is the first full English translation of the Argentine artist León Ferrari’s uncompromising literary masterpiece (1967). A critique of the Vietnam War and American imperial politics, the book weaves together hundreds of excerpts from newspapers, periodicals, works of history, the Bible, and other sources. Ferrari conceived a dialogue among supposed voices of authority, insisting on the equal complicity of individuals such as Hitler, Lyndon Johnson, Pope Paul VI, and God in perpetuating unending cycles of violence.

The Words of Others: León Ferrari and Rhetoric in Times of War provides a wide-ranging survey of the artist’s literary collages using appropriated texts, produced from 1965 to 2013—a body of work which represents a kind of experimental writing at the intersection of visual arts, performance, theater, literature and activism. Exploring a little-known aspect of Ferrari’s work, this volume includes seven essays by academics from Latin America and Europe with previously unpublished primary source documents (press notes, photographs and correspondence, among others), and more than 100 illustrations.

Lounge Act is a live performance recorded on Friday October 16, 2015, at REDCAT gallery as part of the exhibition "Hotel Theory." Poet, critic, and artist Wayne Koestenbaum performs piano miniatures (Scriabin, Chopin, Fauré, Milhaud, and Poulenc) while incanting spontaneous Sprechstimme-style soliloquies. Koestenbaum improvises words that stream in correspondence with the score’s musical phrases.

Recorded, mixed and mastered by Michael Webster, and produced by Sohrab Mohebbi in collaboration with UDPR.

Lounge Act is available in a limited edition of 300 vinyl copies.
