The quarterly series devoted to experimental performance offers adventurous audiences an interdisciplinary mix of new works and works-in-progress by some of the city’s freshest voices. This edition of Studio was curated with guest curators Charles O. Anderson and Deborah Oliver, and features works by Brandon Alter, Karen Anzoategui, Emily Beattie and Johnathan Snipes, Moira MacDonald, Gabriela Garcia Medina and Jordan Saenz.

BRANDON ALTER: BRANDONNA SUMMER, DRIPPING WITH TALENT
Serving up classic camp, diva Brandonna takes to the stage to deliver a powerful cabaret song-set woven with moving doses of self-reflection, inspiration and empowerment, while accompanist Michelle Wong's running commentary from behind the keyboard challenges our star's assumptions, undermines her confidence and rattles her nerves.

KAREN ANZOATEGUI: CATHOLIC SCHOOL DAZE
In what starts as an overtly funny look at the earnest delusions of her adolescent self, solo theater artist Karen Anzoategui returns to her Catholic school years, a time of messiah complexes and misunderstood girl-crushes, until her story takes a powerful turn to reveal the brutal consequences of bullying, gossip and her self-inflicted techniques for survival.

EMILY BEATTIE and JONATHAN SNIPES: ME ANTHEM
Wearing a body microphone to capture her movement’s auditory artifacts, Emily Beattie's dancing generates the raw sound-source for Jonathan Snipes live-processed electronic composition in a dynamically structured improvisation—one that uses strategies of mirroring and echoing to escalate the duo's physical and sonic feedback to a fevered pitch.

MOIRA MACDONALD: MARGERY AND ME
Puppeteer Moira MacDonald draws inspiration from the life of Margery Kempe—a medieval pilgrim whose life record is considered by some the first autobiography in the English language—as well as her own memories of childhood in Alaska, to construct bold theatrical images exploring two women's journeys in a visually poetic doubling.

GABRIELA GARCIA MEDINA: INTERNAL BLEEDING
Alternately funny and bittersweet, at times raw, and powerful throughout, Gabriela Garcia Medina's fast-paced spoken word delivers the passions of an unyielding heart as she excavates the life experiences that serve to strengthen character, bring humility and inspire laughter, while invoking an earnest desire for peace, healing and radical acceptance.

JORDAN SAENZ: WITH YOU WHEN YOU DO
This new work for ten dancers is an anthem to the power of collective action and the source of social change, as choreographer Jordan Saenz offers up driven, explosive movement, fast-shifting compositions and expressive gestures that celebrate the energy that fuels rebellion and protest, and serves to spark the revolutionary spirit.
