Marilyn Crispell, Myra Melford and Snowy Egret

Marilyn Crispell Solo/Duo &
Myra Melford and Snowy Egret

The Herb Alpert Creative Music Series

Presented as part of Angel City Jazz Festival: Artists and Legends
Co-presented with The Jazz Bakery

Marilyn Crispell, a trailblazer of improvised music since the 1970s, opens this extraordinary concert with live-wire solo piano before being joined by Alpert Award-winning keyboardist and creative musicmaker extraordinaire Myra Melford for a set of piano duos. Crispell is an alumna of the Anthony Braxton Quartet, the Reggie Workman Ensemble, and several other distinguished groups. Melford is one of the most gifted and visionary pianist-composers to emerge from the jazz scene in recent years—an artist of remarkable breadth and thoughtful, expressive sensibility. The show concludes with the Los Angeles debut of Melford’s newest band, Snowy Egret, featuring trumpeter Kirk Knuffke, guitarist Liberty Ellman, bassist Stomu Takeishi, drummer Tyshawn Sorey and dancer Oguri.

Funded in part with generous support from The Herb Alpert Foundation.
