New Original Works Festival 2006

Program One
2006 NOW Festival

The third annual New Original Works Festival features three weeks of experimentation, discovery and bold creative voices. Inventive Los Angeles performing artists are given a chance to take creative risks using REDCAT as a high-tech theatrical laboratory.

THE OUTSIDERS
The inventive duo of Stacy Dawson Stearns and Tim Cummings blends stylized movement, animated video projections and a lush musical score in this evocative suite of absurdist dance-theater. Walking a line between the hilarious and the profound, they inhabit a contemporary mythical world governed by such manifestations as gigantic butterflies, unicorns, and fistfuls of dollars.

MICHAEL SAKAMOTO AND AMY KNOLES
Nothing is off-limits in Sacred Cow, an adventurous collaboration between movement innovator Michael Sakamoto and internationally acclaimed composer/percussionist Amy Knoles. The music and motions are inspired by everything from waltzes and tangos to hip-hop and butoh, but the result is wholly original, showing these two influential artists at their best.

KRISTINA WONG
Incisive writer and performer Kristina Wong mixes sharp humor and shaky psychology in Wong Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, a semi-autobiographical, serio-comic quest for a cheap fix to eradicate depression, anxiety and all-out neuroses. Wong's irreverent and provocative work has given her a national cult following for "politically charged art with unapologetic humor." Bitch Magazine
